About us

TIHAS is the best medical and nursing college in Iringa

TIHAS is a faith-based training institution located at Tosamaganga Village in Kalenga Ward which is in Iringa District Council, 15 kilometres East of Iringa Municipal Council with GPS coordinates: Latitude (S): -7.841325, Longitude (E): 35.603098, Altitude (Elev): 1531m. The Institute is owned by the Diocese of Iringa and operates under the supervision of the right Reverend Bishop Romanus E. Mihali. It was established in 1996 with an overall goal of training health professionals with adequate competencies to respond to the increasing health needs of the diocese, country and worldwide.

TIHAS is fully registered by National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) since 2003 under REG/HAS/020 and Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) Reg No: 0107 in the year 2009 the institute conducts training in Technician Certificate programme in Nursing and Midwifery. From 2018 the institute has been fully accredited to offer programmes of Ordinary Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery NTA level 4-6 and Ordinary Diploma in Clinical Medicine NTA level 4-6. In November 2024 the instituted have been recognised to offer a new programme of Ordinary diploma in Diagnostic Radiography NTA level 4-6.

Ordinary Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Upgrading (In-Service)

requirements :

Holder of Technician Certificate (NTA level 5) in Nursing with "D" pass in Biology, Chemistry or Physics (CSEE) for the graduates starting from 2010; OR Graduates before NTAs system should have certificate in Nursing and Midwifery/Public Health Nurse B and at least "D" Pass in any of science subject; AND Work experience of two (2) years and above, Necessary Attachments: Register and License to practice by TNMC, Technician Certificate and Transcript in the related field and Letter of permission from employer

BISHOP ROMANUS MIHALI

OWNER

Bishop Romanus Mihali

Born on June 10, 1969, in Itulituli, Mufindi, Bishop Romanus Elamu Mihali is the current Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Iringa, Tanzania. He was ordained as a priest on July 13, 2000, and has since dedicated his life to pastoral service and education. His academic journey includes studies in philosophy and theology at Peramiho Major Seminary in Songea, as well as degrees in natural sciences and education from the University of Kerala, India.

Fr, Dr. Benjamin Mfaume

Fr. Dr. Benjamin Mfaume is a Tanzanian Catholic priest and medical doctor who serves as the Executive Director of Tosamaganga Regional Referral Hospital in Iringa. He is also an orthopedic specialist, providing care to patients on Wednesdays and Fridays. Under his leadership, the hospital has become a center of excellence in delivering quality health services and serves as a teaching hospital for the Tosamaganga Institute of Health and Allied Sciences (TIHAS).

Where is TIHAS exactly located in Iringa?

We are just 15 Kilometres away from Town Center where its easily accesible by Public Transport (Daladala) and Autorickshaw (Bajaji) via Taramac Ruaha Road.

Do you offer accomodation?

Yes we do offer well equipped accommodation since all pre-service students are strictly hostelers and students are able to buy their food from the available canteen in very affordable student based prices.

Is Tosamaganga Institute a registered Institution ?

We are a Fully Accredited institute to provide Health Education in all forms and as of now we provide education for Clinical Medicine and Nursing and Midwifery
